AT LEAST 47 KILLED, MORE THAN 50 KIDNAPPED AS GANGS ATTACK CHURCH AND COMMUNITIES IN HAITI
At least 47 people were reportedly killed and more than 50 others kidnapped during a brutal Aug. 23–24 attack in Haiti’s Kenscoff commune.
The violence was attributed to the Viv Ansam gang, which targeted several communities as insecurity continues spreading beyond Port-au-Prince.
Among the locations attacked was the Evangelical church Ark of the New Testament, where displaced families had reportedly taken shelter.
At least 22 people were reportedly killed inside the church, turning what had been a place of refuge into the scene of a devastating tragedy.
The attack is another painful reminder of the worsening security crisis in Haiti, where armed gangs continue terrorizing civilians, forcing families from their homes and placing churches and humanitarian workers under increasing pressure.
Yet Christian leaders in the country say the Church cannot abandon its mission.
Archbishop Max Leroy Mésidor declared:
“The Church has to continue its mission in good times and bad.”
For Christians around the world, this is a moment to remember the people of Haiti in prayer—especially grieving families, kidnapped victims, displaced communities and believers continuing to serve in dangerous conditions.
