TSA Western Territory Prayer Requests

CALL TO PRAYER
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2, NIV

The Salvation Army Call to Prayer line for November 25 2008.

“Prayer isn’t just asking God for something we want. Prayer should also include confession of sin, and praise to God for who He is and what He has done for us.

Prayer should have an additional element, and that is thanksgiving. Repeatedly the Bible commands us to give thanks. The Psalmist said, “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever” (Ps 107:1)

It’s easy to be thankful when God blesses us with something good—swift recovery from an illness, for example, or an advancement at work. But the Bible says we should “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus” (1 Thess 5:18 NIV)” (Hope for Each Day)

1. Pray for those being affected by the world wide economic crises. May our leaders find quick solutions to reverse the current trends and restore our country to prosperity and peace. Pray for those families being affected by the loss of their homes and jobs.

2. Pray for President George W. Bush and the remaining weeks of his administration and for President-elect Obama as he selects his new administration. May divine wisdom and grace guide each decision leading to peace and prosperity for the world. Pray for the President and President elect!

Fountain Family

Please lift up our church in your prayers. There has been a problem with gossip and an individual decided last Sunday to leave the church. Many more are considering leaving. May the Lord intervene in the lives of those affected and to the individual(s) who are spreading this deadly poison. Pray for us as we confront people.

I'm reminded of what the Apostle John encountered in 3 John 1: 9-10>

9I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will have nothing to do with us. 10So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping maliciously about us. Not satisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.

Leaders & Economy

September 29, 2008 Dear Jeanne,Treasury Secretary Paulson has worked with President Bush, leaders in Congress, both presidential candidates and other advisors on a plan to rescue our failing economy. Congressional leaders toiled through the weekend creating a plan deemed acceptable by members on both sides of the aisle.

Today, the House of Representatives failed to pass that bill. Members from both parties pointed fingers as the stock market plunged. Commentators are saying that the economy is doomed and the next Great Depression is inevitable.

Interestingly, some pundits are saying that this crisis has but one source—greed! Greed is a spiritual problem, not an economic one. And a spiritual problem requires a spiritual answer.

In this time of unprecedented uncertainty, we need God’s intervention. We need His solution, and we need Him to reveal it in such a way that we know it’s Him—and only Him—acting on our behalf.

Please, join me in praying for God’s help in this potentially disastrous time in our nation’s history. Pray that God will guide the leaders into the solution He desires. Pray for wisdom for all involved—for Secretary Paulson, President Bush, Fed Chairman Bernanke, Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Reid, Minority Leader Boehner, House Financial Services Committee Chair Barney Frank and others as they work together.

Thank you in advance for praying with us in this insecure time in our country. Together we place our security in God, and in His answers to our prayers. It will be exciting to see how He provides.Prayerfully yours,

John LindPresident/CEO P.S.
Please help our country by forwarding this email to as many people as you can.

Christians in India

Dear Colleagues in Christ,Urgent request for prayer - India Northern TerritoryI am asking on an urgent basis for prayer for our Salvationist comrades in the India Northern Territory. Salvationists in the State of Orissa have been directly impacted by recent civil disorder and are in need of our loving thoughts and earnest prayers. Following the deaths of local Hindu leaders, some fundamentalist Hindu citizens have been offering violence to their Christian neighbours, including Salvationists. Two corps halls have been destroyed together with a quarters building, and 100 Salvationists are now hiding in fear in the nearby forests. Please pray that God will protect them. Also our Boys' Home has been destroyed. Thirty children and the officers caring for them are now in police protection. Please bring this situation to God in prayer. Efforts are being made to relocate the children to another of our homes. Please pray for Colonels Kashinath and Kusum Lahase, territorial leaders, and all their staff, and especially for the divisional leaders in Orissa. God grant a swift return to normality and a restoration of tranquility in these communities. To date there are no reports of Salvationists injured or killed. Thank you for your fidelity in prayer.

God bless you all.Yours in Christ,

Shaw Clifton, General

Scottie's Health

Please continue to pray for Scottie's health. He is currently being treated for cancer at Memorial Hospital. May the Lord comfort Scottie during this difficult time. May the Lord give Scottie's family an extra measure of His grace and strength as they surround and support Scottie.

Maurene's Health

Please pray for one of our Corps volunteer, Maurene. Please pray for her health. May the Lord strengthen her during this time as she prepares for her treatment. Please pray for her family as they surround her to support her.

Prayer Alert - DHQ

September 12, 2008 Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me. --Psalm 50:15Dear Jeanne,The situation in the Gulf Coast is dire according to breaking news reports. People in coastal areas axzre being warned to “get out now” or face certain death . Hurricane Ike is huge and is packing winds with speeds over 100 mph that threaten to tear into Galveston, Houston and other coastal areas. The after-surge of flooding could destroy what the winds don’t. This is a time to pray! Houston is home to more than 4 million people , hundreds of thousands have evacuated; its surrounding area has a large concentration of oil refineries, resorts and the Johnson Space Center. Please, join me in praying for coastal Texas and Louisiana:
For the storm to lose energy and move away from the coast
For citizens in need—particularly the marginalized, the ill and the homeless—to have assistance and guidance as they evacuate

For churches to step up and provide shelter, supplies and support when and where possible
For the protection of all involved—for police, fire and emergency medical workers, for those responsible for utilities and transportation and everyday citizens seeking refuge
For deaths, injuries and damage to be minimal Please be certain you forward this to as many people as possible, asking them to join this important prayer effort. And I thank you, in advance, for your faithful prayers. I know they will make a difference to the people of the Gulf and to our country.

Prayerfully yours, John LindPresident/CEO

Territorrial Prayer Requests

Have you ever prayed…no, really communed with God…and listened…and acted…and continued to pray…and pray….and pray? The Bible often commends praying continually as the only way to live out life. I live by prayer. The Salvation Army in the Western States was challenged by the question, have you ever prayed, no really prayed, for more than a few minutes? Well get out there and try it! You have to do it to see the most incredibly astounding results…yet, they should not be astounding, because it’s prayer and God tells us how prayer changes everything.

The Western Territory’s official kick off for a more concerted than normal prayer focus, was Sept. 15, 2007, however, the Southern California & Hawaii Divisions, the Western Music and Youth Institutes, Territorial Headquarters, and the San Diego Kroc Center had already set the scene.

An outdoor Boiler Room (prayer room) had been set up at both California and Hawaii regional ministry events and the Music and Youth Institutes – lengthy residential teenage/young adult camps centered on excellence in Salvation Army ministry, music, and Christian leadership. All testified to a passionate emphasis and felt the power of and diverse ways in which prayer worked!

The San Diego Kroc Corps Community Center Associate Administrator, Captain Lisa Van Cleef, indicated that a “Boiler Room” – set up and decorated by members of the congregation - became a very quiet sanctuary at which forty-five center members, youth ministry program participants and Salvation Army and other local church attendees prayed.
An incredible diversity of pray-ers and visitors paused as they rushed to their class or event. Several visitors have been attracted to the Sunday services and one couple has decided to make The Salvation Army their church home.

At the San Pedro, California, Gerald Hardin participated in the prayer vigil. He had been battling cancer and felt in his heart the Lord answer his prayer in that very moment, giving him peace.
At Pendleton, Oregon, Captain Martha Sheppard, indicated she couldn’t wait to get back for another two-hour shift praying, emerging invigorated and changed.

The THQ 24/7 Boiler Room contained a variety of prayer focus opportunities but the one most meaningful to Major Ralph E. Hood Jr., Territorial Secretary for Personnel, contained a fishing net draped with baskets full of paper fish. Instructions were to open your hearts to an individual or group for whom the Lord wanted you to pray and to write their name on one of the fish. The Major wrote a high school friends name, Vince, on a fish, hung it in the net and prayed for him and then continued in prayer at various other “stations” in the prayer room for another hour. There had been no contact between Ralph and Vince for over thirty years, but when Ralph returned to his office there was a voicemail from Vince!

Recognizing God’s special purpose through prayer and in Vince's phone message, Ralph immediately phoned Vince, with a précis of thirty years news. It transpired Vince had tracked down Ralph from one of his sisters, that he’d experienced several difficult years, and decided to make contact as he knew Ralph had become a Salvation Army pastor and would have a receptive ear and gentle heart!

Upon learning of Vince’s address, Ralph provided local contact details for The Salvation Army. The following Monday Vince phoned to say he’d attended church and at the conclusion of God’s message presented by the corps officer (pastor) he went forward and gave his life to the Lord. Initially, he did not understand what he was doing, but when he got up from the time of prayer, he felt like a load was lifted and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. As they talked about what had happened, Ralph indicated that Vince now needed to get into The Word reading his Bible, to continue praying, and to join a fellowship of other Christians in order to grow. Vince said he’d enjoyed such a warm welcome at The Salvation Army that he planned to return.

So, get to it – I challenge you to pray. Not just for a few minutes each day, only at church, an extra hour in a Boiler Room, or indeed for the year…but pray continually. Watch life grow and everything change.
Thank you God, for being able to talk anytime, about anything, knowing you care and will answer according to Your Will.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe will be holding presidential and general elections on March 29th on this year - which is a few days from now. There are already concerns and allegations of fraud and rigging in regards to the election. Many are afraid that there any irregularities during the elections may result in civil strife after the elections (remember Kenya?)

In spite of the socio-economic challenges that have plagued the nation in recent years, Zimbabweans have generally remained calm and peaceful. I would like all of you to join us in prayer that the elections go smoothly and that peace and order may prevail afterwards. I believe in the power of prayer and that God's love and compassion will move to intervene in this situation.

Our Church Family

Lord, thank you for who you are! Thank you for your love, grace, mercy, strength, and guidance in our lives! We praise you for empowering us with your presence through the Holy Spirit!

We confess our sins to you! Forgive our sins individually and corporately! May we feel free to worship you knowing that there are no obstacles in our way. Enable us to live holy and blameless lives, for the purpose of giving you living sacrifices for your glory!

We ask for your spirit to fall afresh on our church family. Help us to love one another with your love. Guide us to find and do the ministries that you have called us to do. Take away any spirit of complacency and lethargy from our church. May we serve you wholeheartedly like there is no tomorrow! May your joy abound more in our lives as we serve you!

In all, blow the flames of your Spirit's power in our lives, so that revival may come to our Church in Spokane! This we ask in the authority of Jesus' name. Amen!
