David L.- deployed to help

Well, I have received "the call" along with many other Salvationists.

I will be deploying to San Antonio early Sunday to serve the victims/evacuees of Hurricane Harvey.  It should be a two week deployment.  I'll be serving people food, drinks, helping them find shelter, comforting them with a hug or a prayer: you know, all the things Jesus instructed us to do.

I ask a favor; please pray for my Sweet Pea, Geraldine L., who will be carrying on the work of the Army here in Rogers while I'm away.  Also, pray for my congregation, the flock Jesus gave me and whom I have grown to love and, yes, covet (not in a bad way).  Pray for my Momma, Helen L.  She worries about me, too.  I'm sixty, but she still calls me "baby boy".  For the record, I do not have a problem with that. 😊

I'll do my best to keep everyone informed of our work serving others in Jesus' name.

Greg L- new position

"Father, Thank you for opening a new chapter with my new employment and ministry with The Salvation Army San Bernardino ARC as Store Manager of The Salvation Army Redlands Boutique Store. I am excited and also nervous as I begin this new job. Please watch over me, anoint my working life, So that I move in your strength and not my own. Thank you for this new opportunity to serve the men at the ARC, the people in our community and most of all you Lord, Amen!"

Jonathan M. - wellbeing/health

"Wanted to give you all an update on myself. Thank you all first of all for your prayers and constant care and concern for me. I am dealing with the chronic pain better because it has backed off some gradually and also I am trying to be more tolerant when it comes in the afternoon sometimes between 3 and 7 PM. However, because of learning to stop thinking constantly and working on things all the time, I am learning to relax in the evenings before bed and try to go to bed at a decent hour. That is my biggest challenge. I'm doing some better with it.

It's very hard to be a busy person working all day and half the night and all the sudden try to stop and change your lifestyle that quickly. But we have made the transition fairly well between 2013–2017. I believe 2018 will even be a better year"

Jonathan M.- Texas (storm)

"Praying for the people in Texas as the hurricane and heavy rains move through."

Keith B - family and church

"Ladies and gentlemen I have a prayer request. Our youngest son Dylan's pastor and the church they attend is in the middle of a nightmare. The youth pastor ,who is a woman ,just came out as a lesbian. The church never had a set policy about this and you can guess the mess this church's leadership is experiencing.  Please pray the church leadership meets this challenge  head on, sticking to the Biblical standards we uphold."

Bob S. Prayer: "Praying for the youth leader to find her way back to God. Prayers for Dylan and his church. For wisdom and compassion and for the strength to stand firm."

Warren D.- wife's recovery

"Dixie, after hard work in getting up from her bed and walking about 50 feet from her room and back and sitting in her chair for an hour! She is doing well!"

Mike J. - wife's recovery

"Rachel is out of surgery and in the recovery room. The surgeons found and repaired a hernia. Otherwise the surgery went great. Thanks for all your love and prayers."

12 Tragedies / 80 wounded in Barcelona

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — A white van jumped up onto a sidewalk and sped down a pedestrian zone Thursday in Barcelona's historic Las Ramblas district, swerving from side to side as it plowed into tourists and residents. Authorities said 12 people were killed and 80 were wounded, 15 of them seriously, in what they called a terror attack. The afternoon attack in the northeastern Spanish city was the country's deadliest since 2004, when al-Qaida-inspired bombers killed 192 people in coordinated attacks on Madrid's commuter trains. It left victims sprawled out in the street, spattered with blood or crippled by broken limbs. Others fled in panic, screaming or carrying young children in their arms. As witnesses and emergency workers tried to help the wounded, police brandishing hand guns launched a search of side streets looking for suspects. Commissioner Kenneth H. - Prayers for Our Country

Dear Friends: The events of the past week have been traumatic for all Americans. There is division and misunderstanding throughout the country, and many hearts are filled with bitterness and anger. It is no exaggeration to say that this has become the summer of shouting. At moments such as this, you and I can and should play a key role in helping to heal the deep spiritual wounds of our nation. Relying upon the power of the Holy Spirit for guidance, we should make ourselves available to support and pray with those who are hurting, and we should work tirelessly to ensure that, in the midst of this difficult time, men and women are reminded of the grace, the love, and the mercy of God. Let us determine, therefore, that we will not sit on the sidelines. Let us not fail to fulfill our calling as Salvationists to carry the gospel to a hurting world. Let us demonstrate in tangible ways our convictions and our confidence in a Holy God, and let us declare unashamedly that Jesus Christ is the One through whom the world can be reconciled to God and people can be reconciled to one another. To this end, I am asking that every corps and institution set aside time this Sunday for special prayers, asking God to touch the hearts and minds of our leaders, to soothe the destructive passions that now dominate the spirits of so many, and to use us in ways that will turn men and women to Christ. We know that He is the solution, and that if we cry out to Him, He will never fail to answer. Furthermore, I am asking that officers contact their community leaders and offer to organize community-wide gatherings that will help move us from fear and distress to hope and peace. Let our corps and our buildings be seen as places of love and acceptance for all. May God find us faithful at this moment. May He use us as His instruments to meet the deep-seated pain of suffering humanity. God bless you. Warmest personal regards.

64 babies died - India tragedy

Panic and tragedy ensued at a hospital in Gorakhpur, India as 64 children died after the company providing oxygen to patients allegedly cut off the air supply.

The reason for cutting off the oxygen? Unpaid medical bills—6.8 million rupees worth (£80,000).

But are 7 million rupees worth the price of 64 dead babies?

34 Tragedies - Fellow Christians in Missions

In a tragic turn of events last week, 34 people were killed in a bus crash in Madagascar, including eight Operation Christmas Child volunteers and 12 graduates from The Greatest Journey discipleship program. Samaritan’s Purse CEO Franklin Graham detailed the tragedy in a Facebook post early Friday morning, asking for prayers for those injured and the families who lost loved ones. Graham said, “Thirty-four adults and children were killed in a horrific bus crash on their way to a church service in Madagascar a few days ago. There are reports of entire families being lost in the carnage. Samaritan’s Purse has worked in this country for many years…I’m thankful they knew the Savior and are now in his presence.” According to reports, the wreck occurred when the packed bus plunged about 65 feet down a steep ravine after it struggled to climb a steep hill. The passengers were on their way to a nearby town to attend a church meeting. Unfortunately, the roads and bridges in Madagascar are often poorly maintained and these types of incidents occur frequently in the country. “It is unimaginable what happened because the car was in good condition; the papers of the vehicle were in order. My wife and my children were among the passengers. The whole family is dead,” said Elias Ralaiarimanana, a bus driver. The Greatest Journey discipleship program is offered through local churches around the world to children who enroll after receiving an Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift. The course “teaches boys and girls how to know Christ, grow in their faith and share this Good News with others.” Graham concluded the post saying, “Would you join us in praying for those who are grieving their loved ones and for the many injured? ‘For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens'” (2 Corinthians 5:1). from: http://churchleaders.com/news/308270-34-samaritans-purse-volunteers-students-killed-madagascar-bus-crash.html

Virginia Tragedy and Injuries

"Pray for Governor of Virginia Terry McAuliffe, law enforcement, and everyone struggling to deal with the chaos and violence that reared its ugly head in Charlottesville today. It is such a tragedy—life was lost and many people were injured. Violence and hatred aren’t the answer. God’s Word tells us, “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice” (Ephesians 4:31). Join me in praying for the injured, the families of those who died—and for peace to be restored."

Major Harry L. - Officers Prayer

Greetings from our Officer Care and Development Department. As I write this, I remember our visit with you folk during an Officer Councils. It was so enriching to listen to not only your words, but the passion of your hearts for ministry. You are both truly servants of our servant Lord, and know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that you have been called by God to do ministry in His name and for His glory. I want to encourage you today as you continue to shepherd God’s people in Hilo. God is faithful, and whatever concerns weigh upon your hearts today, He will see you through them. The words of the chorus are so true: “God will make a way where there seems to be no way.” I pray God’s blessing of peace, hope, and joy upon your lives, and all you do for Him. I pray for the anointing of His Holy Spirit and for you to always be conduits of His grace and forgiveness. People really do need the Lord, and He has placed you in Hilo for such a time as this. Here are some Scriptural blessings from the Lord for you today: Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints! For the Lord preserves the faithful, . . .Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord (Psalm 31:23-24). Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord! Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord! (Psalm 27:14) “Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.” (Micah 7:7) THE MESSAGE: “But me, I’m not giving up. I’m sticking around to see what God will do. I’m waiting for God to make things right. I’m counting on God to listen to me.” (Micah 7:7) “Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.” (Micah 7:7) God bless you richly. Marina sends her warmest greetings. If we can pray for anything specific for yourselves or your ministry, it would be our privilege and honor to do so.
