Pray for Indonesia

Rescue teams in Indonesia struggled on Sunday to reach communities feared devastated by a major earthquake and tsunami on Sulawesi island, with a toll of more than 400 killed expected to rise sharply as contact is restored with remote areas.

Dozens of people were reported to be trapped in the rubble of two hotels and a mall in the city of Palu, which was hit by waves as high as six meters (20 feet) following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake on Friday.

Annual Prayer for Victims of Human Trafficking

Dear Corps Officers and Administrators,

Every year, The Salvation Army dedicates one Sunday in September to corporately lift up those trapped in human trafficking and proclaim freedom. We spend time educating ourselves, leading freedom walks through our communities and joining corps and centers all over the world in prayer. This year’s Salvation Army Annual Day of Prayer for Victims of Human Trafficking will be held on Sunday, September 23rd, all over the world.

Here are a few ideas on how you and your corps or center can participate on this day:
  • Advertise and post the posters included below
  • Lead a prayer/freedom walk in your community
  • Include a specific prayer for human trafficking survivors in your Sunday service (included below)
  • Show an educational video highlighting what human trafficking is. Click here for video options.
  • Show a video of how the SA is helping to restore human trafficking survivors. Click here for video options.
  • Have a young adult share a reflection (included below)
  • Integrate into your sermon (sermon starters and call to action included below)

On our website you’ll find resources to inform, inspire and mobilize you on everything mentioned above. Here is the list of resources you can download from our website here or click on the links below to download.

We look forward to hearing how you will be joining the Army around the world on this day to proclaim freedom for all.  Use #FightforFreedom to tag and share your photos on social media. We will send out a survey after the day of prayer to capture how you participated in it!

If you have any questions or need additional resources, please contact Priscilla S., our Territorial Anti-Trafficking Coordinator: Priscilla.s..........@usw.salvationarmy.org. We are here to serve you!

Thank you!
