The Salvation Army Ukraine Update

Ukraine Crisis Update

Donations are coming in from around the country, the need is great. As a reminder in Emergency Disasters The Salvation Army gives 100% of the donations to the crisis it was given for and does not keep any for administration. This is important information for people to know as they choose which organization to use when providing donations for Emergency Disaster Services. NHQ has already sent $1 million to IHQ to support The Salvation Army’s efforts in Ukraine and the surrounding countries.

As I write the International Emergency Services (IES) consultants are being deployed into Poland, Romania, and Moldova to train local TSA teams and help establish additional refugee assistance.

Local Salvation Army’s in Ukraine and the surrounding countries are doing all they can with what they have to help those in needs. Corps are being used as shelters and refugee support centers. Please hold our Salvationist brothers and sisters up in prayer as they literally become the hands and feet of Jesus serving those in real need.

Ukraine

In Dnipro the Salvation Army prepared sweet pies and distributed them to displaced people. In Lviv the Salvation Army stocked up their supplies and shared their contact details on social media etc. in order for displaced people to get in touch and receive the most essential items.

Hungry

The UPS Foundation also just shipped 27 pallets of supplies, on behalf of The Salvation Army, from Switzerland to Hungary to help with refugees at boarder posts, sleeping bags, mattresses, blankets, sleeping mats, hygiene items etc. enough to help approximately 2,000 Ukrainian refugees

Romania

Tens of thousands of refugees passed through the Siret swamp in Romania, The Salvation Army emergency team offered help to complete asylum seekers documents, gave advise how to obtain biometric ID documents, assisted with family reunifications with family members waiting outside the camp and coordinated the needs for and distribution of relief material and other support with the other stakeholders.

Moldova

During the time of the humanitarian corridor the Salvation Army team in Moldova managed to send urgently needed medical items across the border where a team from Ukraine received it and transported it to a children‘s intensive care unit in Odessa. The Salvation Army works in coordination with the ‘Centre For Refugees Reception’ in the village of Mikhailany in the Ryshkansky district.

Poland

The regional officers and corps officers in Warsaw together with International Emergency Service were able to bring much needed supplies to a Warsaw reception centre late Saturday evening. The sign in Ukrainian reads: "Welcome, free food for all". Partnerships are proving key to meeting human needs!

Russia

The Salvation Army in Russia responds to the needs of displaced people by providing food, hygiene, and other relief items. To date there are over 60,000 displaced people in the southern part of Russia.

Slovakia

A plan of action in preparation for accommodation, material needs, and emotional support has been formulated. An emergency response team consisting of representatives from Slovakia and Czech Republic has commenced and will meet on a regular basis.

Czech Republic

Czech Republic is already home to some 200,000 Ukrainians and therefore anticipates many refugees who will seek support from family and friends in Czech Republic. The Salvation Army has available capacity in the existing social services in Czech Republic and stand ready to provide support without impacting on the existing client base.

Sarah S. - Dad's Health

Please be in prayer for my dad right now. We came home from church, thinking we were going to be celebrating my Grandma’s 92 birthday (already a day late because we thought my dad would feel better today), and ended up having to call the paramedics. He is in so much pain and we’ve never seen him like this. If you know my dad, he is one tough cookie and doesn’t usually complain too much about pain, even when it had been bad the last few months, and just toughs it out. So, we knew when he asked us to call, he was in unbearable pain. What is more worrying is he can’t stand on his leg and when he tries he gets short of breath and almost passes out. They have already done or are doing tons of tests to rule out another blood clot, but the results won’t be in for another couple of hours. I followed him to the hospital, but was turned away and can’t even be in the waiting room! Please pray for pain relief for my dad and peace for the rest of us at home waiting to hear from his docter.

Kristy C. - Health/Pain

Unexpected pain in an area I was not expecting to have this kind of pain is keeping me awake… laying in this position is never good for me but it’s the only way to not agitate the pain. Praying for relief
