I decided it may be time to give a medical update report in case you are interested. I have moved on to another phase of treatment. It involves chemo which we really wanted to avoid, but looks like the best idea for now
I made a list of pros and cons that went through in my mind, preceded by a few comments from various doctors
“You are very strong” (N and F)
“Your liver is functioning well, in spite of the problems” (F)
“You are a blessed woman” (F)
These comments from doctors are directly a result of so many wonderful friends praying for me. So THANK YOU!
Here are my comparisons, followed by a much loved poem of encouragement. The clouds are rich with blessings falling sometimes as dew drops, and sometimes as earth-moving torrents.
CONS to PROS
Chemo started TO Chemo started
50 lbs Weight loss = skeletal figure TO Weight loss = girlish figure!
Thinning hair TO Possible new hairstyle
Clothes don’t fit TO New clothes
Helplessness TO Being helped and supported by loving people
Seemingly endless blood draws for test results TO Regular test results with watchful interpreters from blood draws … and Vesuvius, my reliable vein
The unknown = anxiety TO The unknown = faith and hope growing
THE GATE OF THE YEAR
'God Knows'
And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
“Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown".
And he replied:
“Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way".
So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night.
And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone East.
