“Tonight, Geraldine had a pretty bad anaphylactic reaction to a new medication she started taking two days ago.  We contacted her physicians on call number and they instructed me to take her to the closest ER.  When we arrived they immediately took her back and began IV fluids and administered some additional medications.

Her airway has begun to open, so she is breathing better and the swelling of her tongue, throat, and lips is beginning to subside.

Pretty scary couple of hours.

I’m hoping to take her home soon enough to grab a couple of hours sleep before work.

Coptic Christians in Egypt - PTG

A bus carrying Coptic Christians to a monastery in northern Egypt was attacked by gunmen. At least seven people have been killed and 14 wounded. An eerily similar attack occurred last year that claimed the lives of 29 believers.

A spokesperson for the church in Minya, Egypt said the death toll was likely to rise. Traveling by bus, the group was headed to St. Samuel the Confessor monastery in Minya when they came under fire. The monastery is located about 160 miles south of Cairo.

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST:  We just received word that Todd and Debbie’s daughter, Emily, was killed in a car accident.  Todd has been in the Mid-Atlantic District for tour and is now flying back to Georgia, where they have been staying during their home assignment.  We do not have any further details at the moment.  Please be praying for the family.

UPDATE:  Todd was able to fly home this morning. Sully and Natalie will be flying home from Cambodia on Sunday evening. Then, the family will all fly to Arkansas on Monday and the rest is yet to be written. 

Todd & Debbie are grateful for your prayers. They are so very sad, but holding on to the hand of our loving Jesus. Their minds are running through all the beautiful memories of their dear Emily.  She was 21. They are asking Jesus to fill their emptiness as they grieve the loss of their precious daughter and asking him to remind us of all the truths of his Word.

Pray for the many decisions, logistics and strength to walk through these days ahead. 

Presently they are planning to have Emily's funeral service in Toccoa, GA towards the end of next week.

Rescue teams in Indonesia struggled on Sunday to reach communities feared devastated by a major earthquake and tsunami on Sulawesi island, with a toll of more than 400 killed expected to rise sharply as contact is restored with remote areas.

Dozens of people were reported to be trapped in the rubble of two hotels and a mall in the city of Palu, which was hit by waves as high as six meters (20 feet) following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake on Friday.

Dear Corps Officers and Administrators,

Every year, The Salvation Army dedicates one Sunday in September to corporately lift up those trapped in human trafficking and proclaim freedom. We spend time educating ourselves, leading freedom walks through our communities and joining corps and centers all over the world in prayer. This year’s Salvation Army Annual Day of Prayer for Victims of Human Trafficking will be held on Sunday, September 23rd, all over the world.

“Well can't sleep again from the pain ! ER last Thursday BP 172/115, severe headache and ear ache, got treated and released. Ear infection got meds and Friday went to dentist. No real 1 tooth pain or damaged tooth just small cavity last lower right tooth. X-ray showed deep elongated roots to the jaw and very very close to the nerve. Went for consult to oral surgeon today and will get oral surgery tomorrow at 2:15. Extraction of that one and 1 other. Got pain meds and something for the infection but boy it's painful at times. Please keep me in your prayers for some relief and a successful extraction with no nerve damage. Oral surgeon seems great and really professional and gained my confidence. Keep him in your prayers too. I'm happy to sleep thru this as I'm never comfortable at the Dentist. Was Blessed to have my wisdom teeth extracted under anesthesia in 94. It was a breeze just remember getting IV then waking up, hope this goes just as smooth !”

“My sweet Aunt Susan rests in the arms of Jesus tonight. I am so glad and grateful that we got to see her and visit with her just two weeks ago!

When we first moved to the United States and things were uncertain for our family’s immediate future, when times were a bit difficult for us, it was my Grandma and Aunt Susie who so selflessly would care for us in many, many ways. Aunt Susie would buy us clothes through her employment and employee discount at JC Penny’s. If we looked good and ready for school on day one with brand new clothing, resulting in slightly more boosted self esteem, we could guarantee it was my Aunt Susie who had lovingly clothed us. I remember many Christmases when we would get brand new clothes from Aunt Susie. She was definitely the “Clothing” Aunt

Above this, she was a woman who always had a smile on her face and always exuded joy and happiness. As kids, anytime we went to visit Grandma, Aunt Susie, and Crystal, it was Aunt Susie who would suggest and plan fun outings and day trips. She was always about making fun and unforgettable family memories. Up until the very end of her battle with Pancreatic Cancer, she lived life as full as she possible could, making the most of every opportunity and days she was given, even going to her church camp just weeks before. She loved Jesus! This last year and a half have shown our family what an amazingly strong woman she was!

The last two weeks have been exceptionally hard for her and family, especially her daughter, my cousin Crystal. Please pray for her!!!!! 

Tonight, Aunt Susie is free of her suffering and affliction and resting in God’s presence. Though we are certain of this, we grieve her absence as it leaves a gaping hole in the fabric and tapestry of our family. It’s such a hard night for us!

Pray for Redding California

The Salvation Army will start a meal service later today at an emergency evacuation center for residents who have been affected by the recent Carr Fire in Shasta County.  Teams from The Salvation Army Oroville Corps and Redding Corps have been sent to Shasta High School (2500 Eureka Way, Redding, CA) to provide assistance at the site. 

Starting tomorrow, a group from the Roseville Corps will be deployed to Weaverville Elementary School (31020 Hwy 3, Weaverville) to provide meals at that evacuation center.  

The Carr Fire started on Monday in Whiskeytown in Shasta County, and since that time, it has already destroyed 20,000 acres.

Pray for Greece

A firestorm that swept through a seaside resort town near the Greek capital killed at least 70 people, including families with children found clasped in a last embrace near a beach as they tried to flee the flames, officials said. 

The two largest wildfires — one 20 miles northeast of Athens near Rafina, the other 30 miles west of the capital in Kineta — broke out Monday during hot, dry summer conditions.

Fanned by gale-force winds that frequently changed direction, the flames spread rapidly into populated seaside towns — too fast for many who were in their cars or homes to flee, fire department spokeswoman Stavroula Malliri said. The Greek fire brigade said the death toll has risen to 74 as of Tuesday.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras declared a three-day national mourning period for those killed in the wildfires, Sky News reported.

"The country is going through an unspeakable tragedy," he said. "Today, Greece is mourning and we are declaring three days of national mourning in the memory of those who perished."

In the seaside town of Mati, rescue workers found the bodies of 26 people huddled together near a beach, Reuters reported.

“They had tried to find an escape route but unfortunately these people and their kids didn’t make it in time. Instinctively, seeing the end nearing, they embraced,” Nikos Economopoulos, the head of Greece’s Red Cross, told Skai TV. The group was found near several burned out cars close to a walled compound, also gutted by the fire.

Authorities evacuated more than 700 people by sea overnight as tourists and residents headed to coastal areas for help, said Merchant Marine deputy minister Nektarios Santorinios, whose ministry is in charge of the coast guard.

Pray for Laos

Hundreds of people are missing and several are presumed dead after a hydropower dam collapsed in southeast Laos, state media reported.

 

The 410 MW project, which is under construction, collapsed around 8 p.m. local time on Monday, releasing 5 billion cubic meters of waters, according to the Lao News Agency.

Several houses were reportedly swept away in the deluge, which prompted flash floods in several villages across Attapeu Province.

The News Agency said the incident has claimed “several human lives” while “several hundreds of people” remain missing. An estimated 6,660 people were left homeless by the floods.

Local authorities have called for urgent aid supplies, including clothing, medicine, cash and drinking water.

The $1.02 billion hydropower dam is being built by the Xe Pian-Xe Namnoy Power Company (PNPC), a joint venture between South Korean, Thai and Lao firms.

The project began construction in 2013, and was expected to come online in 2018, exporting 90% of the electricity generated to Thailand, according to PNPC.

Environmental groups have long cautioned Laos over dozens of hydropower projects slated along the Mekong River, which could sever a major artery for the region.

Aiming to become the battery of Southeast Asia, Laos has laid out a hydropower development plan that includes 72 large projects, many of which target electricity exports rather than production for domestic usage.

Guatemala Volcano Update

At least 192 people are missing and 75 are dead as a result of the explosion of the Fuego volcano in Guatemala on Sunday, officials say.

Villages on the slopes were buried in volcanic ash and mud.

Rescue work on Tuesday was disrupted when a new eruption sent hot gas and molten rock streaming down the volcano's south side.

More than 1.7 million people have been affected by Sunday's eruption, with more than 3000 evacuated. 

Tuesday's explosion took many by surprise after volcanologists said the eruption, which had sent ash up to 10km (33,000ft) into the sky on Sunday, was over for the near future.

Guatemala Volcano

‘The Guatemalan volcano erupted on Sunday and sent flows of pyroclastic materials down its flanks into nearby towns. The lava covered several homes in the area.

At least 33 people were killed since the eruption, and the number of people dead is expected to rise, said Sergio Cabanas, the head of the country’s disaster agency.

Another dozen people were rescued in area hit by thick ash, mud or lava.

Jessie and Kyle W. - Vehicle Accident

“This morning was a terrifying morning. Kyle was taking me to work and we were rear ended at a stop on the freeway. The poor girl who hit us was going almost 70mph and didn’t realize we had stopped. Our truck was smoking, and when I went to get out, my seatbelt was jammed and I was stuck. That was one of the scariest moments of my life. Kyle went into beast mode and was able to rip the seat belt off of me. He also was able to rip the jammed door open of the women in her vehicle because she was also stuck. Both vehicles are totaled, but we all walked away alive and that truly is such a blessing given the severity of the accident. Kyle and I are banged up pretty bad and are currently at the hospital getting checked out.

Thank you Jesus for protecting everyone involved! We’re pretty shaken up right now, but hoping our scans all come back clear. Thanking God things didn’t turn out worse 🙏🏻”

EDS- Pahoa

Please continue to pray for the people of Puna Hawaii. They have left their homes that were affected by the volcano and some are at the shelter. This is going into the third week of Emergency Disaster Service. The Salvation Army primary function are four fold: Manage feeding at the shelter, incoming donation and distribution, Case Management and Help with clothing voucher. Please pray for all of our leaders and volunteers. Also praise the Lord for those churches, organizations, and businesses that have stepped up to help feed the people at the three shelter sites (three in Pahoa, one in Keaau and one at Sure Foundation church). Pray that the lava will stop so that the people can go back home.

He has multiple blocked arteries and the doctors were making a plan on the best course of action. My Dad, Mark A D., is going in for a quadruple bypass surgery next Wednesday. “I will try and be breef:

Saturday morning (May 19) Esther was feeling bad, had the runs and noticed her stool was bright red.  Normally this is an immediate red flag however we have seen this in the past after we ate beets.  

Long story short:  

It was a problem.  We went to Hilo hospital E.R. and they sent her by air to Queens Hospital in Honolulu.  She left about midnight.  Sunday morning they did the evaluation and scheduled a colonoscaphy for 11 Monday. They found the problme and she is resting.  She has had quite a few visitors of relatives in Honolulu.  We don't know anything more at this time.  Pray for her.”

North Korea - Christianity

GODTV.com recently published a post about our hopes for a new day for the proclamation of the Gospel in North Korea. This followed the historic meeting between Kim Jong Un and Moon Jae-in, the leaders of North and South Korea. Now it seems North Korea is prepared to release three Christian leaders, which is unprecedented. Furthermore, a prominent prophetic preacher is saying “North Korea will open its doors to Christianity”.

For this to happen, it would be a complete turnaround, but we know that our God is able to do this. As Proverbs 21.1 says, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord… He turns it wherever He wishes.” It’s so important therefore, that the Body of Christ throughout the world continues to trust God for His intervention in North Korea. We must keep praying.

General André Cox has asked us to stand together in prayer as we anticipate the start of the High Council:

‘As the High Council convenes in May, The Salvation Army’s leaders from around the world will be tasked with electing the next General, the 21st leader of our global Army. Friends, would you join me in praying – very simply – that God’s will be done? Many column inches, tweets, Facebook posts and blogs will be written – of that I have no doubt – but it boils down to this: Listening to God’s still, small voice. And then acting decisively on it.

‘So pray for the members of the High Council. Pray, too, for the man or woman who will take on the leadership of The Salvation Army as General in August. But as you pray, ensure that – as you pause today – you also listen for God’s still, small voice. Is the Holy Spirit gently nudging you to do something? Perhaps to speak to or offer a helping hand to a friend, colleague or neighbour? Is God calling you to take a more radical step in your discipleship journey?’

New: HVO confirms 2 new vents.  Vent #13 has opened near the intersection of Leilani Ave. and Kahukai Rd. and Vent #14 near Kaupili St. and Leilani Ave.  Both have paused but continue to release hazardous gases.

The East Rift Zone eruption in Leilani Subdivision continues.  Hawaiian Volcano observatory confirms volcanic activity has paused at all 12 fissures. Hazardous fumes continue to be released.  A total of 12 fissures have emerged, and 35 structures have been destroyed.

He will be heavily sedated and on a breathing tube for the next couple days.  They also inserted a feeding tube.  The plan right now is to get him fed and keep him comfortable.  Pray for healing for Brady. A few long term complications come from scar tissue during healing and from acid reflux."

Could use some prayers.  Once again I am having surgery on my eye.  They are inserting a tube so fluid will drain .  This time around I am feeling very apprehensive and anxious.  Maybe because this time after the surgery I will not be able to see anything,as I can only see out of that eye and mitt will be patched until Saturday morning.  Please pray for calmness and peace in the days that follow.  I know that God is in control and will be my rock.  Still humaness gets in the way.  Thanks all.  Blessings on you all.
