Amy A.- friend's baby

"Calling all prayer warriors. This last week, one of my fellow Mary Kay sisters took her new baby girl, Mila, in for a checkup on a cough and found out that she had congenital heart failure and was not expected to live. After emergency open heart surgery, and being left open for 4 days, Mila was stitched back up and is on the slow road to recovery. She and her parents will spending the next 3 months at the hospital working on her road to survival. Will you join me in praying for this precious little girl and her parents."

Shannan S.- housing

"A week from today, once again Harley and I are relocating, this time though, only God knows where we are going to sleep the day of moving and there-after. I've done my part networking with the churches that I attend for a new housing arrangement, and we are waiting acceptance/placement with a United Way housing program that will work with my current employment limitations at keeping a roof over our heads and increasing my income. With that good news, we still don't have any assurance of a place to sleep after the evening of the first of May. Please keep our situation in your thoughts and prayers this week. The only fun in moving anymore is unpacking in the new abode. With hope for the best and hoping the worst doesn't happen..."

Major Neil S. - Study Tour Prayer - p2

My Fellow Pilgrims: Another 10 days has gone by which brings us closer to the experiences that will make a significant impact on your life. I want to stress the importance of prayer for each other in your daily devotions. From the original material sent to each of us, you will know the places we will visit. Take time with your Bible and seek out those places, events and circumstances surrounding the locations. I have a Bible program - Biblesoft - on my computer which is very helpful in this area. You will have your own, use it. Thanks to those who have made contact with me following these letters. Please feel free to do so at any time. I am here for you. I was reading for my own benefit of late again, the small book of Paul's to the Philippians. Philippi is inland a short distance from the coast in Macedonia. It was here that Lydia was converted. (That is the subject of another study.) Paul in this letter writes of, joy, happiness, love, others first, knowing Christ personally and always the greeting, 'My dear friends'. Paul, a prisoner in Rome at this time, rejoices in the knowledge of fellow followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is that thought I leave with you each, we have it made so to speak, but others have problems in serving Christ because of their faith in restrictive countries. Some of the places we will visit are in that category. I conclude this note with the words of Paul from Phil 4:1-2, The Message: My dear, dear friends! I love you so much. I do want the very best for you. You make me feel such joy, fill me with such pride. Don't waver. Stay on track, steady in God. Good advice for each of us now and in the days which lie ahead. I use these words of Paul as my own to you each one. As mentioned earlier, please feel free to contact me concerning your prayer requests. Blessings: Neil. Major Neil H. S.

Dave M.- Open Door Missions - Protection

"For those of the Christian/praying persuasion- just saw this on the opendoors website. A terrifying situation possibly happening as we 'speak':
Open Doors field staff in Nigeria have asked for urgent prayer after residents of six Christian communities in Yola, Adamawa State, received written warnings that Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen will attack today, 20 April.

While women and children have fled into the bush, we have received word that Christian men from neighbouring regions are heading to Yola with arms, aiming to defend the town that suffered a deadly attack in January.

"It is a very explosive situation," said an Open Doors expert. "I know that these kinds of written warnings are quite common. I am aware of other cases where similar warnings were dropped prior to attacks during the Boko Haram insurgency. Whether the connection with Fulani herders was stated in the written warning is not certain at all."

Please pray:
That the army would be able to protect these communities
For the women and children hiding in the bush, that they would be comforted and receive God's provision
For stability and peace in northern Nigeria."

Connie H.- health

"Could use prayer this morning, getting ready to head to the neurologist and nervous about the next steps and the treatment plan. I know God is in control but I covet your prayers as Purnell and I walk through this crazy journey."

Houston Flood - SA Response

The Salvation Army in Houston, USA, Prepares Flood Response London, 19 April 2016/IHQ/ – FOLLOWING flash floods that caused widespread disruption in Houston, Texas, USA, The Salvation Army is putting in place a significant disaster response. Many highways and neighbourhoods are flooded after more than 16 inches of rain fell in only a few hours. Major David Feeser (Houston Northwest Corps) is coordinating the response efforts that will utilise mobile kitchens from Salvation Army locations in Pasadena, Conroe and Houston Northwest. Other disaster units from around the state are on standby and will be deployed as needed. Teams will deliver meals, hydration and emotional and spiritual support to first responders and affected individuals, responding initially in the Greenspoint and Meyerland areas. Salvation Army officers, staff and volunteers will be ready to serve as needed throughout the coming days as the waters recede and the immediate needs of the community become clearer. A trailer loaded with Salvation Army clean-up kits - containing a mop, broom, bucket, cleaning and sanitising supplies, towels, rags and gloves - has been sent to Houston for distribution. Another load, this time containing boxes of food – is expected in the city by the end of the week. 'We have three mobile kitchens stocked and ready to deploy as soon as it is safe to do so,' says Major Feeser. 'The Salvation Army will be working closely with partner agencies and the City of Houston to assess the areas of greatest need. We are committed to serving those who find themselves in times of crisis – whether that be by providing a hot meal, a cold drink or an encouraging word or prayer.'

Christi K.- health recovery

"I got the most voracious flu I have had in a decade. I went to the doc last Monday and weighed in (not sick yet), got the flu Wednesday night, better Sunday night, then went to the doc yesterday. In one week I lost 19lbs. . . . the hard way. I knew I was sick, but man! I hope no one else gets it - I am still pretty weak. Good health to you all!"

Ecuador Earthquake - SA response

NEWS RELEASE: The Salvation Army Responds to Ecuador's Worst Disaster for Nearly 70 Years London, 18 April 2016/IHQ/ - THE Salvation Army in Ecuador is responding to the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the country's north-west coast. At least 350 people are known to have lost their lives but President Rafael Correa says that number is likely to rise. It is the worst disaster in Ecuador since a 1949 earthquake that killed more than 5,000 people. Commissioner Torben Eliasen (Territorial Commander, South America West) says The Salvation Army's Ecuador Division is fully involved in responding to the earthquake. The divisional leaders (Majors Samuel and Gloria Flores) were visiting Esmeraldas when the earthquake happened, and the corps (church) and community centre in the city is offering assistance. He adds: 'Our corps and community centre in the city of Manta is also actively engaged.' Red Shield emergency response teams are in action across the affected region, reports Major Samuel Flores. In Manta a team is offering support and providing food to dozens of families. Another team, led by Major Fabian Jaime, from Esmeraldas, has set off on a 180-kilometre journey to the small city of Pedernales, taking water, candles and non-perishable food to people who have been forced from their homes. Essentials are being distributed to people around Guayaquil and a further Red Shield team has left the capital, Quito, to provide assistance in Puerto Viejo and Manta. General André Cox has called for prayer for the people of Ecuador, particularly for the families of those who were killed and for the Salvationists and others who are seeking to provide help and hope. Major Neil S. - Study Tour Prayer - p1

To My Fellow Pilgrims: I promised not to do this daily, but to pray daily. I trust this life changing event is high on your prayer list daily. I have the list of each PILGRIM and going over the names, I remember faces and times we have met and know one another. Some months ago when we planned this trip, it was not possible at that time. However for this journey, we have well prepared ourselves. I know those of you who are active, it is months away and you can put off some planning, but I caution you, do not do that. The final days will come fast and if we are not ready, we could even be staying home. (There is a message there I believe.) Which is an illustration for me of the return of Christ - be ready. Now we will be travelling those byways and roads where Christ and Paul journeyed and to do this we have to be ready in mind as well as the ordinary things such at the toiletries. To stand and sing in the place where Jesus said: "Blessed..." and not have a dry eye, is impossible. To listen again as Paul stands up in the meeting of the Areopagus and we hear him say,: "Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you. So prepare to be blessed and then in turn be a blessing to others. With my prayers: Major Neil H. S.
