Mervyn M. - healing and recovery

We received the following update regarding Lt. Colonel Mervyn M.: We want to say how much we have appreciated all the get well cards, notes, calls, and prayers.  We have been comforted and strengthened by the power of your prayers, and the love expressed to us.  Merv will be released from the Rehab Hospital Thursday, and will then start the process of physical therapy on the arm that was shattered in the fall.  We have been warned that the process of healing will be slow, but we are most grateful to God for excellent doctors and physical therapists, and for His healing touch.       Continued prayers would be greatly appreciated!

Aneudy A.- mom promoted to Glory.

I want to scream at the world.  I want my pain to be no more, I know it's just the beginning my heart just aches cause you are gone .  How am I able to bare this true  ? I wish I can hear you voice and feel the warmth of your hand where ever I am sad or feeling pain. You are the greatest gift I had and I thank you for being the best mother. America Ramirez

Jason K.- finance

Some days you just have to laugh so you don't get too mad or cry. We spent the past year and a half with our bank card being blocked in Mexico because the bank thought our card was stolen and being used for fraud. It was often very embarrassing. I'm in the US for less than a week and my bank card info has been stolen and used for purchases in Tokyo.  Hmmm.... Laugh, cry, get mad?  I'm choosing to laugh right now at the irony. :-). Hoping all gets fixed.

Jrnnifer S- praise report

I have shared the pain and now I want to share the praise! This past week was another rough week for me. On Thursday I said a simple prayer of "God I really need something good in my life right now! Please show me something good." God just simply cannot be out done! My husband, who lost his job this week, had a great second interview with a company that is first shift work (M-F) only five minutes away from home! I had an interview for a job and was hired almost on the spot. Due to the fact that it would be a department head position she needed to clear it through the Regional Director first!  If that wasn't great enough...while I was driving home from that interview I got a phone call from a person that wanted to hire me for another job! Thank you God for showing me that I DO have a purpose and your really DO have a plan!

Mass Shooting - TSA response

Hello, all.

I'm passing along details from an update received from our Sierra del Mar EDS team earlier today, for your information and internal communication purposes if needed.

<<<>>>

In response to the mass shooting that occurred on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, The Salvation Army Disaster Team deployed to The Rudy Hernandez Community Center, where families were being reunited.
    • The Disaster Team deployed at 3pm on Dec. 2, and remained on site until the center closed at 8:30pm
    • The team was prepared with water, Gatorade and snacks for families who waited long hours to be reunited with loved ones.
    • The Salvation Army also provided comfort and prayer to grieving families.
Over 300 people were served by The Salvation Army yesterday, and with centers in San Bernardino and Redlands, as well as throughout the Inland Empire, The Salvation Army is prepared whatever support as needed.

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy,” says Major Daniel Henderson of the San Bernardino Salvation Army Corps Community Center. “Our community and the world is devastated by what happened, and we’ll have to move forward together, hand in hand.”

Salvation Army locations in San Bernardino went on lock-down and all Bell Ringers were picked up from local stores.

Chuck F. - daughter eye

My daughter is going under the knife today.  The surgeon is removing a macular pucker.  What is that, you ask?  According to the source of all accurate information...the Internet...A macular pucker (also called an epiretinal membrane) is a layer of scar tissue that grows on the surface of the retina, particularly the macula, which is the part of your eye responsible for detailed, central vision.

Steve S. - surgery - fb

Without being too dramatic here, we need to give you a quick update so you can pray. Steve does need more surgery. His scheduled 3-month check-up for his July hernia surgery revealed another hernia in a different location. And yesterday, bad pain in another location confirmed the presence of yet another hernia. Because Steve has a weak abdominal wall that needs strengthening, the repair of both hernias requires open surgery with mesh. Because excellent medical facilities in the Philippines are so close and are less expensive, we are pursuing having the surgery done in Manila as soon as next week.

Would you pray?

We need confirmation of the Philippines option and God’s grace in making the necessary preparations and arrangements, including assistance with housing, getting the right kind of food for our diet, and resolution of insurance issues. Thank God for the help of many brothers and sisters in Christ in the Philippines, Palau, and Guam to make this happen. Pray also for successful surgery and a shorter-than-normal recovery time (maybe 2 weeks instead of 4 weeks?), and that we could still be on schedule for finishing the missionary training next July.

Special requests: God’s financial provision for the flights from Palau to the Philippines – they are terribly expensive ($700 to $1000/person round trip), and that this would be a springboard for renewed spiritual vigor and physical stamina for our lives and ministry, and not just for us, but also for the missionary trainees. We all need prayer to not grow weary in our spirits, to persevere with joy, and to draw closer to Jesus during this time.

Besides that, we’re doing well!

Thank you so much for your friendship, faithfulness in praying, and your financial support. God uses all three gifts to sustain us.

Steve and Anne

John M. - father - fb

I normally don't post anything on facebook, but this posting is important.  One of my best friends passed away on Sunday; my father.  He was 82.  As I was growing up he was my mentor, best friend and father.  Those attributes remained until this past Sunday when his heart stopped.
During my teenage years when fathers and son's were supposed to have a generation gap and it was the popular thing to do, there wasn't one.  Don't get me wrong, we fought from time to time, disagreed often, but thinking back, he was usually right.  Now as I'm older and maybe a little wiser, he was always right.
He helped me get into the same industry that he worked and serviced.  After 35 years, I'm glad he did.  He was provided very well for his family.  I too have been blessed in this industry and have done the same.  To his end, it was always a conversation piece and he was always interested in how I was doing.  This industry was a focal point even when there wasn't much to discuss.  Looking back he was a great father and dad.  He will be missed a lot!!!

Jennifer S.- adoption - fb

Alright Facebook family/friends...I am asking for prayer again. I am calling in the "BIG guns" with the state adoption coordinators...this is our one last stitched effort to attempt to adopt our little man. I don't really know if there is anything that he can do but I do know that there is NOTHING that God cannot do. So please pray that God would make a way for our son to come home and become our legal son!

Joanne and Chris G. - fb

So thankful for leaders and friends who have taken the time to visit and pray. There is a long road ahead, but it all begins with one step at a time. In the meantime, the strawberry frap and thoughtful gifts remind me I'm not alone. I'm especially thankful that my "sister" has hardly left my side. Between her and Chris I expect we will have more answers soon. My other "sister" has kindly taken in my precious son. Thank you Jesus for your faithfulness and unconditional love.

Frank Needs Your Prayers -
I had expected to spend many hours today in my office working on a sermon.  I didn't get to sit down until approximately 5:30pm and then received unexpected news; however, despite a hurdle and the bad news ending, today was an amazing day.

Today I organized church members to gather together to pray over and anoint with oil someone who has two additional growths on his brain and will go into surgery this coming week for the second time.

The prayer meeting at his house was a blessing. God's love and the Holy Spirit are powerful and for that I give thanks.

Will you join us in prayer?

Praise Report - Jonathan M. - fb

It's been one week.
Last Tuesday i was working on some lighting at church, I lost my footing and came down on my hand.
When I got home, I iced it and when to bed. At around 3am, my arm was throbbing, fingers were purple, and I couldn't ignore the pain any longer. I made and apt to see the Dr. The next morning, and after a long ordeal of a day, they had told me that my scaphoid bone would take 6-8 weeks to heal. If it didn't heal right or if the bone dies from lack of blood, I will lose the bone.
This is a vital bone. Without it, I will lose mobility and flexibility in my thumb. So bye bye music.

BUT GOD IS BIGGER THAN THAT.

After one week of prayers from friends and families, I have full mobility in my finger AND able to move my thumb! No pain what so ever! Strength had been restored.I am able to push buttons, and open my car door. I truly believe that when I go back next week for xrays, the Dr will be scratching his head because I will be HEALED! I ask that you keep praying. All glory goes to Jesus.
#pray #blessed #grace #faith

I had A LOT of private responses to my last post...thank you for your concern. I am going to finally respond to everyone's questions as to what has happened in my...my husband and I had an encounter that resulted in some horrible consequences. One of those consequences led to us resigning our foster care license so we can focus on our future. Thus our children being removed including the boy we were in the process of adopting. My heart is extremely broken and hurting. But I believe that God is in control and has a purpose in all this.

Susan M. - fb

What's on my mind?  Sadness.  Today was a horrible, gut-wrenching reminder of the toll that can take place on someone when they let life get to them.  I KNOW there is much more to it, as I deal with it for my clients on a daily basis.  But, heart-breakingly, a colleague completed suicide last night.

No job is worth my mental health, my heart & soul's condition.  I had a few people ask me today how I do NOT let work get to me, as I work in one of the highest at-risk-for-suicide jobs there is, especially within the assignment I am in.

First and foremost, I build my foundation on One whose peace resides within me no matter what is going around me on the outside.  Many a time I do not always tap into His peace, but when I do, what happens on the outside has little impact.  2- I am thankful for my family & friends who constantly help me see outside of the situation.  3- I base my life on more than work.  I- capital I- nor you- are what you do.  Our jobs, titles, do not define WHO we are, our essence, or our value.

My heart is heavy for my colleague & his family.  It is equally heavy for those who feel so depressed & heartbroken that they choose this route.

If any one of you ever starts to go down this road, please, oh please, call me. YOUR life means so much to me!

Precious friends and family... I am requesting the saints to pray for our family. We have had an assault from the enemy's camp.. without going into detail... we have been hit on all fronts, health, finances, family.. and overall wellbeing. I am currently writing a Christmas program for our school on spiritual warfare, and am keenly aware that the forces of darkness do not want this message presented. But, please cover us in prayer as the Lord lays us on your hearts.

Patricia C - Farewell

Patricia is a walking testimony. Her life was changed by the power of Jesus Christ. She became a born again believer, served at our Corps - volunteering for a lot of things, including our social services program giving out food and praying with people, Christmas kettles, and leading our Adult Sunday School. She will be missed! She goes out to her new mission field to Maui, where she will be with her son and family, and see how she can get connected and minister at the Salvation Army there. To God be the Glory for shinning through sister Patricia!

Shine a Light on Slavery Day

https://secure.enditmovement.com Please join me in praying for the 27,000,000 men, women and children trapped in slavery. Here are some ideas of what to pray for: Pray that awareness continues to spread. Pray for prevention efforts. Pray for proper training for law enforcement, people in the courts and for people in government. Pray for the rescue of slaves. Pray for the doctors, nurses, counselors and others who help those rescued from slavery. Pray for the physical, mental, and spiritual healing of those rescued from slavery. Tomorrow, February 27, 2015 is "Shine a Light on Slavery Day." It is used to raise awareness on slavery. The #enditmovement works with organizations, including The Salvation Army to bring awareness to the world, to help in prevention and to bring rescue and restoration to survivors. On this day, the movement suggests that participants draw a red "X" on the back of each of their hands, take a photo and post it to their social media sites using the #enditmovement hash tag to bring awareness. If you don't have social media sites, having a red "X" on each hand still spreads awareness- people will wonder why its there. This is a perfect time to help others become aware. I encourage all of you to bring awareness in some way to your families, your youth groups, to your community and to your congregation, not just tomorrow, but continually. This may also serve as a platform in teaching corps kids and teenagers about personal safety, what's going on in the world, how to pray for others etc... May God continue to bless and strengthen you and your ministry, Janniese M. Divisional Protecting the Mission Consultant The Salvation Army
