Teresa E. - Husbands Health

Update : 12/1

Good news coming here. Chuck is still feeling tired and weak but he's been awake all day minutes the 2 or 3 minutes he dosed off in his chair. His cough is calmer for the most part and he is finally negative for covid. We've been on the phone all day trying to schedule follow up appointments. Chuck goes through the VA for his medical, which has always been a huge pain in the butt to try to get them to cover outside bills BUT sacred heart now bills VA directly and gets authorization for outside services all through the epilepsy clinic. It was alot easier this time.

Update:

Chuck should be coming home tomorrow. He will be on high dose keppra and following up with a neurologist that specializes in epilepsy. She really thinks this was caused by covid and once the infection clears, he could be fine. Neurologist will probably be about a month out. She said it doesn't happen alot but she's seen it happen with covid, even with people who are vaccinated. We will find out what the neurologist says and they will probably have him taper down on the keppra and do repeat EEG's after each time they taper down.

Update: I just called to check in at the ER and they confirmed he is now getting IV fluid and drinking water. 🙌

I got a chance to check in with the neurologist while I was with Chuck. His exam was better and he was more coherent. He didn't remember what year it was. He thought it was 1990 something but the neurologist said its perfectly normal for someone new to seizure medication and to seizures to be confused and sleepy. He was able to talk to me most the time I was there. His tests are coming back normal, all except for covid, which was negative at home on Thursday but positive in the hospital today. His kidney, liver, heart and lung functions are fine. His spinal tap was fine. He has no meningitis but they are waiting for cultures, which she suspects will come out normal. He also has not been getting fluids at all, so I made them bring him water and requested they do IV fluids. We are all very scared. The good news is that the kids and I are testing negative for covid. The bad news is, since he won't be able to drive until he is 6 months without a seizure, he can't work at his current job. They told him to come back when he was better and seizure free and he would have a job. Please continue to pray for chuck's health and for us financially. I appreciate everyone's prayers and love.
